About our Game
Portal to Ferrum is a home in Vermont for collaborative fantasy story-telling through the medium of LARP. We are set in the fantastical high-fantasy world of Ferrum: characters are residents of Ferrum, and they explore Ferrum in order to solve problems, complete quests, find treasure, and discover secrets.
Participation can take the form of being a PC (player character) or an NPC (non-player character); those who wish to make and play as their own PC are encouraged to, but those who don’t or wish to attend a few events before deciding to create one are also welcome to join in on the fun as NPCs!
Physical expectations: In general, those participating in our LARP (especially as PCs) will be walking between points of interest and engaging in play-combat. If these would be barriers to your participation, but you still would like to join us, we can make accommodations to include you in the story if you contact our staff, though it may be in a modified or reduced capacity.
Staying in character: As a default, it is expected that participants of our events act “in character,” unless they indicate that they are otherwise “out-of-character” by placing a hand on their head. Out-of-character concerns trump all in-character action: if something is unsafe or someone is having a medical emergency, for example, that always takes priority over in-character battle or conversation. Barring such necessary interruptions, however, it is expected that participants stay in-character as much as possible.
Garb: all participants are expected to wear LARP-specific costumes called “garb” at our events. The general style is “fantasy medieval,” including tunics, dresses, robes, cloaks, leather and metal armor, and the like. Loaner garb is always available for those who don’t have an outfit of their own, and neutral-colored modern shoes are generally fine (ie. black sneakers are ok, but bright orange sneakers aren’t ok)
Character creation: those who wish to create a character to play as their own PC are expected to fill out and send in a copy of our character sheet.
