Humans

The most numerous of the Humanoid species, humans have populated most of the known continents of Ferrum. Their cultures, languages, physical appearances, and clothing are widely varied, and most of the humanoid species are off-shoots of humans, or half-human.

The default species of any player is a human unless you take steps to make yourself look like a non-human species.

While Humans have existed on Ferrum for almost 200,000 years, their civilization itself has been relatively recent. Roughly 5,000 years ago, their first agricultural advancements made staying in one place more advantageous than the previous hunter-gatherer lifestyle. Making their way north, along the coastlines of Azios, Humanity has since spread over most of the known world. Humans are hardy, capable of adapting to most places, and were the first to learn about the anti-magical properties of Iron. With this knowledge, numerous powerful civilizations have sprung up, including the now expansive empire known as the Iron Empire, which currently sprawls across the continent of Oziosa.

Humanity is no stranger to war over the years. The splintered nature of their differing countries and cultures have kept them at odds with any groups that they aren’t actively trading with. Even mercantile alliances can be tenebrous at best, being more about a matter of monetary convenience that keeps bloodshed at bay. Different armies of Humans have also participated in wars against the Orc-Ruled Sloda Kingdom, as well as sporadic fighting against the Giants in the North.

The larger empires of humans are still in a state of expansion throughout the world, as the kingdoms of giants and dragons are now in decline. New countries are also springing up in the world, vying for political power in their respective regions.

Having souls, like all living things, humans are capable of casting magics, as well as accessing “beyond the veil” after death. This means that the creation of human Gods is possible, and has indeed happened on numerous occasions. The Human pantheon is one of the newest that exist, beginning roughly at the same point in time as humanity began their first permanent settlements. The line-up of Human deities that are actively worshiped and answer prayers has changed over time. Likewise, humanity’s skills in magical knowledge have slowly been studied and perfected to the point where countries can rise to power on the backs of their wizards alone, even when lacking a standing army.

As things stand now; Humans are one of, if not the most, dominant races on the face of Ferrum, and they are here to stay for a while yet.
